About
Dar-Alhijrah Masjid

Our Story

Dar-Alhijrah began as a Qur’an study circle by Sudanese immigrants seeking faith, community, and stability. These families carried stories of struggle, displacement, and hope — and they longed for a place where they could reconnect with their faith and pass Islamic values to their children.

In 2011, the gathering grew into the Sudanese Community & Resource Center (SCRC), offering community support, programs for youth, and religious education.

As the community expanded to include Muslims of many backgrounds — African, Middle Eastern, South Asian, and American converts — the need for a formal Islamic center became clear.

In 2015, the organization became Dar-Alhijrah Center Chicago (DACC), an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to serving Muslims throughout Chicago’s North Side.

A Major Milestone: Our New Building

For years, Dar-Alhijrah rented small spaces that were too limited for growing families. But in December 2023, Allah opened a historic door:

This building — once a church preschool — is now being transformed into a house of Allah.

A Major Milestone: Our New Building

Dar-Alhijrah is more than a masjid. It is a place where:

We are building a home — not just a building.
